E.ON Russia Surgutskaya GRES-2 has successfully completed the 2016 flood discharge operations.
As part of preparing for this year’s flood discharge, Surgutskaya GRES-2 set up a special committee and scheduled arrangements to prepare the structures and equipment for maximum water discharge.
The committee, including representatives of Surgutskaya GRES-2, Rostekhnadzor and EMERCOM, conducted a preflood inspection of the plant’s hydraulic structures. Following the results of inspection, the committee drew up a report on preparedness of Surgutskaya GRES-2 hydraulic structures (HS) for flood discharge.
In a period from 22 April to 22 May, requirements were raised for the operating personnel. The normal water reservoir level NWL* = 40.10 was maintained by arranging a day-and-night duty which involved the generation of optimum conditions for floodwater discharge through the flooding sluice. In addition, continuous status monitoring of upstream hydraulic structures was carried out.
No off-normal situations occurred at hydraulic structure.
The Chernaya River’s maximum flow of 59.52 m3/sec was recorded on 26 April, 2016. This indicator corresponded to long-term average annual values.
Over a period from 19 April to 19 May, 2016, the volume of discharge from the water reservoir amounted to 58 mln m3 (Surgut Reservoir volume is 130 mln m3).
Maximum levels of the Ob River are estimated at 710–770 cm. As of 20 May, the level is 6,662 cm, which is normal for this period.
