Berezovskaya GRES, Siberian Federal University and School No. 8 in Sharypovo to Continue Cooperation in Preparing Senior High-School Students for Engineering Professions

The highlight of the forum titled “Energy of the Future” was the extension of the tripartite agreement between Berezovskaya GRES, Siberian Federal University (SFU) and School No. 8 in Sharypovo on cooperation in preparing senior high-school students for selecting engineering professions. The Forum was organised at School No. 8 in Sharypovo to summarise the five years of joint work of the school, SFU Polytechnic Institute and Berezovskaya GRES under Unipro’s social charity programme “Career Starts at School”.

The purpose of the social project implemented in Sharypovo is to get students interested in in-depth studying physics and mathematics and selecting engineering professions, as well as to promote the profession of a power engineer. Berezovskaya GRES Branch of Unipro PJSC funded renovations of several classrooms in the school and procurement of laptops and modern learning aids for students to study advanced mathematics, computer science and physics. Teachers from SFU Polytechnic Institute give lessons to students in the school year. The theoretical knowledge received is solidified in practice, when the students watch operation of equipment during thematic tours to the power plant.

About a hundred boys and girls have finished the energy classes over the five years. There were fourteen medallists among them, who had the average score 67 in math, 62 in physics and 75 in computer science, which was above the average for the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Ninety percent enrolled into engineering faculties. Thirty of them chose power engineering at SFU.

The project continued in 2014: Unipro PJSC and Siberian Federal University agreed to cooperate in skill pool training. The parties signed an Agreement on Strategic Partnership in Training Engineering Personnel at the 11th Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum.

Joint work on upgrading the system for training power engineers has been established under the Agreement. With the support of Unipro PJSC, five laboratories of Polytechnic Institute of Siberian Federal University were fitted out with modern equipment to train students in Heat Engineering and Heat Technology. Currently, twenty graduates of the power engineering classes, who have chosen Heat Engineering and Heat Technology at the Faculty of Power Engineering of SFU Polytechnic Institute, receive additional scholarships and internships at Berezovskaya GRES.

Berezovskaya GRES Branch of Unipro PJSC continues to support future power engineers. This school year, students will have remote classes in computer science taught by specialists of Tomsk Polytechnic Institute. To arrange for successful learning, power engineers have bought eighteen modern computers for the students.
