Berezovskaya GRES Branch of Unipro PJSC with the assistance of Sharypovo municipality (Krasnoyarsk Territory) held public discussions in the form of public hearings of the environmental impact assessment of the project for reconstruction of municipal sewage treatment facilities.
The sewage treatment facilities (STF) in Sharypovo were built in 1984. Over the years, the equipment of the facilities has worn out and the treatment technology has become outdated, and the composition of municipal wastewater has changed. Today, the population massively uses strong household chemicals, which did not exist at the end of the last century. Environmental protection laws also changed. The quality of wastewater at the discharge was previously checked by only two indicators.
According to the applicable decision on the availability of a water body for use, the monitoring procedure must include 33 criteria. All of the above issues are solved by the STF reconstruction project managed by Unipro PJSC and presented for discussion at public hearings in Sharypovo. Following the reconstruction of STF, the discharge of wastewater after treatment in terms of quality will comply with the standards of the best technologies. Waste generation will be significantly reduced. Surplus activated sludge, which currently accounts for more than 80% of the total waste, could potentially be processed into fertilizer. T
he STF reconstruction project provides for installation of an automatic wastewater quality control system. This will allow to continuously monitor the treatment performance and eliminate the risk of discharging insufficiently treated wastewater into natural water bodies. In addition, during the reconstruction, more energy efficient equipment will be used as part of the wastewater treatment process. During public hearings, the STF reconstruction project in Sharypovo was generally approved, but a number of proposals were also made that will be taken into account during subsequent works under the project.
