Smolenskaya GRES Operated for 1,000 Days Without Injuries

In November 2022, Unipro PJSC’s Smolenskaya GRES branch made a crucial achievement – 1,000 days of operation without injuries. Such achievement was made thanks to managing the processes of complying with occupational health and safety regulations at the plant.

To prevent industrial injuries and to encourage employees to comply with occupational health and safety requirements, Smolenskaya GRES carries out occupational health and safety review contests, the Safety Star contest and professional excellence competition. Their purpose is to enhance the role of the heads of functions in organising a safe operation and to strengthen employees’ awareness of regulatory and technical documents, occupational health, safety and fire-fighting rules, as well as the rules of using personal protective equipment.

The following Essential Occupational Health and Safety Rules were implemented across all Unipro PJSC branches: Use the Required Personal Protective Equipment, Perform Repair Operations Only Under a Safety Permit or Written Instruction, Keep Clear of the Load, Cease Operations in Danger to Life, Follow a Safe Route.  These simple rules allow ruling out a serious danger to life and health of employees and contractors during the work.

‘1,000 days without injuries is an indicator of involving Smolenskaya GRES management and heads of functions in the work aimed at creating and maintaining a safe work environment, personnel training and development, as well as at exercising control over compliance with statutory and corporate safety requirements. The current stage is designed to inspire each employee for improvement. For these purposes, we take continuous efforts to build up an informed safety culture among line managers and branch employees, thus changing their attitude to safety. It will allow us to subsequently improve occupational health and safety figures,’ Head of the Occupational Health and Industrial Safety Service at Unipro PJSC’s Smolenskaya GRES Branch Sergey Kiselev said about that important event.

Occupational health is one of Unipro’s priorities on the ESG agenda.
